Historic Renovation and Conversion of the Guardian Life Building to the W Hotel.

W Union Square (converted Guardian Life Building), Park Avenue S., New York
The 1911 landmark Guardian Life building was converted to a new 270-room W Hotel at 17th Street and Park Avenue S. The $148m renovation designed by world famous architect David Rockwell features a 3,000sf lobby and trademark 16 ft. arched windows. The 300,000 square foot project included construction of a two-story grand staircase, restoration of landmarked ballroom marble elevator lobbies, and stairwells. Work included extensive structural work, MEP upgrades and façade restoration to accommodatenew oversized windows and architectural metal and glass.
